Hurricane Lee is rapidly getting stronger and is predicted to become an extremely dangerous category four storm by the weekend, as stated by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
This Atlantic storm started as a category two hurricane with winds at 105mph on Thursday morning. It’s still too early for the NHC to determine if it will hit the US, but there’s a chance it could bring high waves to the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by the weekend.
The NHC forecasts Lee to transform into a major hurricane by early Friday and maintain its strength through the weekend.
Meteorologists are cautioning the Leeward Islands, located at the junction of the Caribbean and Atlantic, to remain vigilant. Mid-September marks the peak of hurricane season, which lasts until November 30th.
