AJKPSC Complete Syllabus for Civil Judges Competitive Examination Test

SYLLABUS AND STANDARD FOR CIVIL JUDGES JUDICIAL MAGISTRATES

1.The written examination shall comprise of seven papers apart from Viva Voce
and Psychological test.

2.A candidate shall answer the papers in English, except the Urdu Serial No.2, below
unless otherwise directed.

3.Time allowed for each subjective paper shall be three hours and for type paper at Serial
No.3 two hours.

4. The subjects included and maximum marks allocated to each paper shall be as shown
below:‐

i. Mohammadan Law.
ii. Registration Act, 1980.
iii. Limitation Act, 1908.
iv. Specific Relief Act, 1877.

6. Criminal Law Paper 100 Marks
i. Azad Penal Code, 1860.
ii. Criminal Procedure Code, 1898.
iii. Qanun‐e‐Shahadat Order, 1984.

7. Islamic Law Paper 100 Marks
i. Islamic Tazeerati Qawaneen Nifaz Act, 1974.
ii. Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hadd) Act, 1985.
iii. Prohibitions (Enforcement of Hadd) Act, 1985.
iv. Offence of Qazf (Enforcement of Hadd Act, 1985.
v. Offence against Property (Enforcement of Hadood) Act, 1985.
Total Marks = 700

8. Viva Voce including Psychological test. 100 Marks

Note:
a)The object of the examination is to test the practical ability of the candidates
rather than the range of their theoretical knowledge. For this purpose, the questions will be asked by giving the facts of a typical case and ask the candidates to frame issues, write a judgment and to discuss
the admissibility of evidence.

b) Credit will be given for the use of legal phraseology.

c)No candidate shall be summoned for Viva Voce and psychological test unless he
has obtained at least 33 percent marks in each individual written paper and 45
marks in the aggregate of the written portion of the examination. No candidates
shall be considered to have qualified in the examination unless he also obtains at
least 50 percent marks in Viva Voce and Psychological tests. Failure in or absence
in Viva Voce and Psychological test shall mean that the candidate has failed to
qualify for and his name will not be included in the merit list.

d.Names of candidates who qualify shall be arranged in order of according to the
aggregated marks obtained in the examination.

e.In the event of a tie, the order of merit shall be determined accordance with the
highest marks secured in the Viva Vice tests, should the marks in the
Psychological/ Viva test of the candidates who tie, be equal than the order of
merit be decided in accordance with the highest marks obtained by such candidates in the aggregate of the written compulsory subjects.If these are the same, then the elder candidate would be placed,
above the younger one.

ENGLISH:
The paper is intended to test the ability of the candidates in functional English comprising
precis writing, translation from Urdu to English,’ composition, usage of idioms and an essay on one of the several specified topics.

URDU:
This paper will test the ability of the candidates to translate an English passage into Urdu,
usage of legal terms in Urdu, composition, precis writing, use of idioms and an essay on
one of the several specified topics.

ISLAMIC STUDIES, PAKISTAN STUDIES s GENERAL KNOWLEDGE:
This will be MCQ type paper on Pakistan Studies, basic principles of Islam, fundamental
beliefs and practices, everyday science, current world affairs and also broad facts of
historical, political, geographical and economic significance.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST AND VIVA VOCE 100 MARKS:
Candidates who qualify the written portion of the examination shall be called for the
Psychological and Viva Voce Test, as under‐

(a) Psychological Test
Psychological Test comprises of paper and pencil test and group tasks.Such tests are designed to assess abilities, attitude and personality characteristics of the candidates with special regards to their aptitude for the judicial services. Candidate’s performance in psychological assessment will form the part of his/ her overall Performance.

(b) Viva Voce Test
Each candidate will be interviewed by a Board. He/ She will be asked questions on matters of general interest. The object of the interview is to assess his/ her suitability for the service for which he/ she is a candidate and in framing their assessment, the Board will attach particular importance to the moral and ethical qualities of the candidates, his/ her
intelligence and alertness of mind, vigor and strength of character and his/ her potential qualities of leadership. The Board will also take into consideration his/ her extra‐moral activities such as sports, hobbies etc. and their effect on her/ her personality and character.
